Long Island Sakura Matsuri Program
I will be joining the 16th Annual Long Island Sakura Matsuri on May 1st, Sunday.
いよいよ桜祭りシーズン到来です！！
本日は、５月１日開催
第１６回恒例ロングアイランド桜祭り
プログラムを紹介いたします。

沖縄舞踊と歌三線は、二部のステージで披露いたします。
Two Theater Performances
1:00 pm – 2:30 pm Classical & Contemporary, featuring:
- Masayo Ishigure and Miyabi~Koto/Samisen Ensemble
- Ichifujikai Traditional Japanese Dance
3:30 pm – 5:00 pm Traditional & Modern, featuring:
- Junko Fisher Okinawan Dance and Songs with Sanshin
- Iai-Do -art of the sword draw.
- Daniel Nyohaku Soergel, Shakuhachi
- Ryu Shu Taiko
Admission to BOTH Performances, Tea Ceremony and Ikebana Manga and Bonsai workshops:

Preparing Dance Props and Costume
I am making a dance costume for upcoming performance,
and my purple umbrella for Higasa odori dance is arrived from Japan today.
今日は、黒の襦袢を作成中。
注文の日傘踊り用小道具も届きました。
舞台前の楽しみの一つとして
演出・監督・指導の他に
衣装を縫うことです。
襦袢は、
５月１４日の桜祭りでお披露目です。
North Carolina Okinawa Association Celebrated its 20-year Anniversary
沖縄から駆け付け、勇壮な舞を披露した創作劇団レキオスのメンバーら＝２日、米国ノースカロライナ州
ノースカロライナ州フェイエットビル市内で２日開催された沖縄県人会創立２０周年記念祝賀会に、沖縄から創作劇団レキオスの照屋真也さん（４２）＝演舞監修、玉里壮平さん（２５）＝団長、伊波史也さん（２５）＝副団長、比嘉翔也さん（２２）、具志堅州さん（１６）の５人が参加し、勇壮なエイサーの舞を披露し会を盛り上げた。
楽曲の調べに乗って若者のパワーがさく裂し、会場いっぱいに力強い太鼓の音が響いた。獅子舞では、動静のダイナミックな動きに大きな拍手が起こり、観客をくぎ付けにする演舞を見せた。バージニア州から来た観客の一人は「レキオスのエイサーを初めて見た。勇ましくて感動した」と話した。照屋さんは「フェイエットビルの県人会に温かく迎えられ、演舞では日ごろの厳しい練習の成果が見せられ喜んでもらえてうれしい」と語った。さらにゲスト出演者として祝賀会のたびにカリフォルニア州から駆け付ける宮城流能松会の宮城能松会主は「道輪口説」を披露し、優美な舞を見せた。
踊りだけではなく、演舞指導に着付けや髪結いなど裏方としても大忙しの宮城会主は「稽古場へは２時間余のドライブもあり疲れがあったが、踊り手が特訓についてきて晴れの日を迎えられた。滞在の９日間は楽しかった」と振り返った。
ノースカロライナ州で長きにわたり琉舞の指導をしている上村多美子琉舞研究所の多美子・バーカーさんは、琉舞指導だけではなく、全てのプログラム作成から来客の把握なども担い、メンバーからは「会にはなくてはならない縁の下の力持ち的存在」と尊敬されている。
バーカーさんは「県人会の役員や若い人達が頑張ってくれて祝賀会をやり遂げた」と語った。

Dress Rehearsal
This year, I am going perform a female zo dance titled Higasa Odori.
I used to dance Higasa Odori with my mother when I was child.

母親と共演した日傘踊り
挿入曲「花傘踊り」 曲は
思い出深い民謡唄になっています。
雑おどり日傘踊りは

三下げ２曲で構成,
後半の曲は
八重山民謡あさどーや（新あさどやユンタの元歌）
あさどーやも大好きな歌です。
本番は紫の傘で踊ります。

Celebrate spring at our free annual Cherry Blossom Festival! Set along the backdrop of the Hell Gate Bridge and the Urban Farm, the Festival welcomes the beautiful cherry blossoms with fun, family-friendly activities and live performances!

Photos from Dance Nations
Scenes from today's event at the State University of New York at New Paltz. After the performances, we offered the dance workshops. After the workshop, one student came to me and said, " I became a better person today, thank you." It made me happy, and I also enjoyed sharing the other cultures today. A well-done program !

学生さんがた熱心にレクチャーやデモ
そしてワークショップに参加してくれました。
ワークショップ後、数名の学生さんが
わたしに挨拶に来てくれました。
「今日は良い人間になれました、有難うございます」と
言われてしまっては、
中途半端な指導を行うことは
出来ないと感じました。
教育現場でのデモや指導、
首を立てにふりながら
わたしのレクチャーを聴講している学生さんたち、
このようなプログラムを主宰してくれた
大学の学生ユニオンに感謝するとともに
舞踊家としてやり甲斐を感じる瞬間でした。
雪に被われた大学も
昨日は、
ワークショップで汗と若い情熱で熱気むんむん。
